Mechanical water filters

Mechanical Water Filters

Ital mechanical water filters for wells are devices that remove impurities using a physical barrier such as filter elements or cartridges. They also filter contaminants like chlorine, organic compounds, iron, calcium and magnesium salts, heavy metals, bacteria, and viruses.

Operating principle

Mechanical filtration is based on physically removing dirt, sediment, or other particles with a barrier. Ital’s catalog includes models from standard meshes for coarse debris to ceramic filters for fine pathogen filtration.

Filters usually have a micron rating that shows which particle sizes they can retain.

Mechanical filters use one or more media under pressure to remove impurities.

They are mainly used to reduce water turbidity, capture suspended solids, organics, colloids, microorganisms, chlorine odor, and heavy metal ions.

Types of mechanical filters

  • with quartz sand;
  • multimedia filter;
  • with activated carbon;
  • manganese sand filter;
  • with anthracite;
  • with porous ceramic granules.

The most common types are ceramic and activated carbon. Ceramic models work through micropores and last long, but do not remove chemicals. Activated carbon absorbs harmful substances, is affordable, and easy to install.

Applications

Mechanical filtration is widely used for water treatment, mainly for reducing turbidity, pre-softening, and desalination. It is applied to both surface and groundwater.

How to choose

  • Size — depends on water volume.
  • Material — steel, stainless steel, plastic, fiberglass.
  • Number of layers — single-layer, double-layer, or multi-layer.
